Sanjivani Jeera Rice is an easy recipe of rice with special tempering with cumin seeds. The cumin seeds are known for their cooling effects in the body especially the digestive system, as they supply antioxidants and iron. This aromatic rice is enjoyed with any dal or any curried beans as part of the main meal.

Ingredients:

  • Rice-1 cup
  • Cilantro-1 teaspoon (optional)

Spices:

  • Cumin seeds-2 teaspoons
  • Salt to taste

Liquids:

  • Water-2 cups
  • Ghee / Coconut oil -1 tablespoon (melted)

Cooking Instructions:

  1. Rinse 1 cup of rice and soak it for 10 minutes. Rinse again in a strainer and transfer it to a stainless-steel pot that fits into the steamer and can be used for steaming.
  2. Add 2 cups of water, oil, cumin, and salt to taste to the rice.
  3. There is no need to cook rice under pressure. Remove the whistle from the pressure cooker and cover the whistle connection with a small stainless-steel bowl. Steam the rice for 5 minutes. Then turn the stove off and keep the lid covered on the steamer. The rice will cook even after the stove is turned off as there is enough steam left.
  4. Take the rice out in a serving bowl and allow cumin seeds to be evenly distributed.
  5. Garnish with cilantro if desired.
