Fundamentals of Wellness

Before we define the fundamentals of wellness, we need to define what wellness means. Wellness is a state of being in physical, mental, and spiritual balance. If they are in balance, then social, environmental, financial, and other aspects do not matter. When one is able and allowed to breathe fully, and the flow of energy in and around the body is smooth and steady, there is wellness. It is not a short-lived experience but a prolonged balanced state which may have some obstacles but has the capacity to recover fully.

In traditional medicine, we have many ways of measuring the performance of mind and body, which is great but despite getting a perfect score, wellness may not exist.

“Everything that is breathing should be allowed to live fully” – is the Sanjivani Motto.

It is the process of balancing different aspects of life, in different roles, while nurturing and sustaining oneself for an average lifespan at least, while allowing departing of soul peacefully when the purpose of life is served. We repeatedly are emphasizing the importance of clean air, clean water, and healthy food. Out of these three, we have more control over the food that we consume which in turn can help us control our mind, body, and spirit. Once the mind is controlled, it can discipline our body and senses which in turn brings inner peace.  Inner peace helps easy breathing and a tension-free state, both of which are fundamentally needed for wellness.

Health is a widely discussed subject for ages as it is very important to our existence. Health is a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.

Before we discuss the fundamentals of health, we need to know what is important for good health?  Most importantly, it is the awareness regarding health. And having received this awareness, one has to check if it is just a wishful desire or is the individual truly determined to achieve good health and invest his/her time in one’s health?

Once there is a desire and also determination, one has to get some basic understanding of a healthy lifestyle. After that discipline is needed along with dedication to follow the healthy path where there is a greater desire to prevent diseases than to fix those “dis-eases”.

Current allopathic medicine was not traditional until the nineteenth century.  It gained popularity because it was convenient and easily available with a hectic lifestyle.  It also does not always demand a lot of discipline and frequently prevention is not expected. Now the tradition is changing to encompassing different types of medicine into one, as integrative and holistic medicine and which may be more time-consuming esp. for the “Pill Poppers”.

Your health is in your hands, but we can support those hands by giving you a better understanding of your health, working with you to help you achieve the goal. When the lifestyle is simplified, there is a greater chance of staying successful on the path. Organization of thoughts and actions can simplify even the most complex things and our desire is to help you with that.

Basics of cooking – Cooking cannot be fun unless you learn the fundamentals first. It is an art that requires you to understand the science behind it. Learn to love your kitchen, for it is a place for emotional outlet where you can perform many experiments and get wonderful results to enjoy, to get healthy and satisfied. The greatest benefit of cooking for own self or at home is that a higher quality of food can be prepared for a relatively lower price.

The most important fundamental of cooking is to identify the type of nourishment your body needs and what types of food will provide that. This may change from day to day, during different seasons, from person to person and the time of the day. After that, select the ingredients that will provide you with the expected nutrition, e.g. different vegetables, grains, fruits, etc. that you must consume over a week or fortnight to get the proper nourishment.

The food also has to be appealing to all the family members while maintaining the nutritional value. Then think of different recipes that the family would like where those ingredients can be used. This will also help you decide for your grocery shopping. Planning the meals at least 60%-70% of the time until you become an expert at healthy cooking will reduce stress.
