Sanjivani Rava Dhokla is excellent and easiest recipe for weight loss and improved digestion. It is rich in protein, Vitamin B, important nutrients and has a low glycemic index. Try this time-saving recipe to have a hearty meal and keep the stomach light!

Ingredients:

  • Cream of wheat /Rava/Sooji-1 ½ cups
  • Urad dal -½ cup
  • Cilantro , finely chopped-1 teaspoon

Spices:

  • Ginger , ground-1/3 teaspoon
  • Green Chilies , ground-1/3 teaspoon (add extra chilies for more spiciness)
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper powder-½ teaspoon
  • Red chili powder -½ teaspoon (optional)

Liquids:

  • Water-12 cups
  • Avocado Oil -2 tablespoons

Cooking Instructions:

  • Wash urad dal thoroughly and soak it for 4 hours. After soaking, rinse the dal again and grind it finely in a grinder with 4 cups of water.
  • Add cream of wheat, ginger, chilies, salt and 2 tablespoons of cooking oil. Mix well.
  • Keep it aside for 24 to 48 hours to let it ferment and rise. Or take ½ cup of batter and add ½ teaspoon of ENO (fruit salt) or baking soda to let it rise for instant dhokla.
  • Stir the fermented batter. The tiny bubbles visible in the batter is a sign that the batter is well-fermented and Dhokla will be soft and spongy.
  • Pour 6-8 cups of regular water to boil in the steamer on a high flame.
  • Meanwhile grease the dhokla plate with the oil and pour ½ cup of batter in it. Sprinkle pinch of red chili powder and black pepper powder over it.
  • Put the plate in the steamer and close the lid and let it cook for 5-7 minutes on high flame.
  • If in doubt, use butterknife/toothpick to check if it comes out clean which is a sign that it is cooked.
  • Remove the Dhokla thali from the steamer.
  • Smear a thin layer of oil to keep the surface moist and let it cool for 2-3 minute.
  • Using a butterknife, cut the dhokla/steamed bread into square or diamond shape pieces and remove them with the help of a spatula.
  • Garnish with cilantro and serve them hot with Dhokla chutney.
