Health Benefits:
Khichdi is a powerhouse of carbohydrates, calcium, vitamins, and several other antioxidants. The combination provides the body with 10 essential amino acids, making it a complete protein. One tablespoon of cow’s ghee is the significant dose of healthy fats.
Ingredients:
- Rice (preferably white rice and not basmati)-½ cup, rinsed and soaked for 10 minutes
- Mung dal -½ cup, rinsed and soaked for 1 hour
Spices:
- Turmeric -1/2 teaspoon
- Salt to taste
- Asafetida -a pinch
Liquids:
- Water-3 cups
- Ghee (preferred)/ Avocado Oil / Coconut oil -1 heaped teaspoon or 1 melted tablespoonful, double it if baby needs to gain weight and is able to digest/based on the health needs
Cooking Instructions :
- Rinse rice and mung dal again after soaking it for 1 hour and transfer into a stainless-steel vessel that can be used in the steamer.
- Add 3 cups of water, turmeric, ghee (half portion), asafetida, and salt. Steam cook for 15 minutes or pressure cook for 7 minutes.
- Add the remainder half of the ghee in the Khichdi and mix well to nearly make a pureed food.
Let it cool down and feed at room temperature for the infant to tolerate
