A Healthy lifestyle is a way of living that supports a disease-free body, a sound mind and emotional stability while aging gracefully. A healthy lifestyle entails living in harmony with the Universe with a disciplined yet a flexible lifestyle. It demands a balanced approach to major spheres that compose our daily lives. Those spheres besides the self are our relationships, career, hobbies, community, planet, and this Universe. The challenge is to nourish all these spheres concurrently.

When I first started practicing medicine, I understood how difficult it was for the working people to live a healthier lifestyle, especially while running a household, taking care of children and often parents. Being a lacto-vegetarian, and having a full-time private practice, it was especially challenging to maintain that lifestyle though every time I found it challenging, I had a greater desire to share my experience with those who could be in the same boat.

Just being a vegetarian does not mean that their food or lifestyle is healthy. Frequently the concepts of healthy and unhealthy foods are not clear. My desire is to share my own experiences to help others achieve better health in a simplified way.

Healthy lifestyle does not have to be complicated, expensive, difficult, or challenging. Good nutrition, yogasana (yoga exercises), yoga breathing (pranayama), meditation and other exercises can all be accomplished in our own home for the most part.  Extreme dieting, inadequate sleep, and extreme hard work are all bad for our health. A healthy lifestyle is a balancing act. Priorities are different in individual lives, but a balanced and structured life brings more happiness and satisfaction. Can you imagine the Sun rising randomly every day?

To live a healthier life is by no means a punishment but a reward you can give yourself to bring the best out of you.
